I actually didn't mind him that much in the first book. But he wore on me a lot of after that, and it retroactively dampened (heh) my enjoyment of the first.

I haven't got around to reading Making Money yet.) He should be in the new Steam book too.

Characters tend to be different in various Discworld books, like AU versions of themself. Take Vetinary - he's very different in the Unseen University series and the Guards! series.
