Anon already mentioned Kon, they referenced Perfect Blue-- with a wording that makes me think they were trolling or just weren't paying attention.

But yeah, Kon was pretty much a life-action director who didn't want to deal with actors or shitty special effects so he took the sensible option.

It was the very first anime I ever saw, and was shown it with no intro other than 'this is a good film'. That she went mad and was then raped was really the most standout details for me. It was not a great intro.
