The giant polka-dotted underwear seen in most (if not all?) Disney movies is the same pair of underwear. It has been passed from person to person like in the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Alternatively, it keeps dying and getting reincarnated as another pair of underwear in another Disney movie.

I don't think it showed up in The Lion King though...

It probably didn't show up in the older movies either. I don't think they started making it a gag until much later.
