I don't carry any water for anarchists, myself. Yeah, they're less cowardly than libertarians, but they're just as adolescent and stupid.

However, I am a little concerned at just how quick to rise up in revolt the populations on this show are. Ba Sing Se in particular. When the death of a government figurehead is IMMEDIATELY followed by citywide looting, that suggests that there was some very serious oppression going on and things were basically close to a boil already.

Yeah, I think they showed that pretty well in both first and third seasons. In first season, there was a ton of government repression and the city was ruled only by (and largely for) benders. In third season, the Dai Li are still around and the Earth Queen was hostile, uncaring and considered citizens her property to dispose of at will.
