26) Call me a non-sensitive bastard, but this sob!story sounds like total bullshit to me. And if it's not bullshit, it's a horrible example of trivializing your friend's death, which is even worse.

Different things stick with people about dead friends/family members-- I have a friend who collects dragons because his late younger sibling loved them. I can't think of softball without remembering one of my best friends who died when I was 10.

I kind of want a link to the date of the plane crash, because that would be REALLY big news, all over the world.

Because plane crashes don't happen often. That's why I go 'bull-shit' in my head, too.

I doubt that would be anything many people would notice, though the fact that it probably didn't make national news is also a factor. Maybe it's a small not-so-city area or just, ya know.. another plane crash in a tiny back story with 1 inch devoted to it in the newspaper. Like so many other stories of such and such crashes.

But, either way. Whatever suites your mind.

Usually if it was really more DOHRAMA packed, I get a feeling its at least semi made up. This one didn't really hit that. It just made me sad.

But I digress.

I feel horrible for it, but I'm suspicious too. It's sad that the internet has made it so that whenever anyone I don't know personally mentions the death of a friend or family member (or if someone in an internet community I'm in is said to have died), I have a hard time believing it.

I actually think the story itself could be true, but this sort of treatment, making a secret about it to garner sympathy by cashing in on a popular anime... Urgh.

So-called 'sob stories' like these, in my opinion, are in great part WHY things like PostSecret and fandomsecrets were created in the first place. I disagree it's trivializing a friend's death. Because a passion they shared was anime doesn't make it trivial in the least; it's recognizing just one more thing their friend won't ever do, even if it is something as small as a favorite TV show. That's not wrong. If someone wanted to gain attention and sympathy from a sob story, it's rather silly to do so anonymously. |D
