27. In defense of the poster, I think he/she truly meant rabid yaoi fanbrats (god knows they're everywhere) and not all yaoi fans in general (hence, the fanbrats part). Whilst I believe this secret was poorly worded, I would have to agree. As an avid 1X2 shipper back in the day, I can remember how the female characters (especially Relena) get so much unreasonable hate it isn't even funny. Now that the Gundam Wing fandom is barely alive, Gundam 00 is turning out to be the next rabid yaoi fanbrats-infested fandom (just check out its comm and various forums out there).

Oh! Rabid yaoi fanbrats != yaoi fans. *bows*

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
... uh? Sorry, but I have seen no rabidity in 00 fandom whatsoever so far o_O

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
You must not be getting around the internet much then.

repost for various corrections

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Give me some examples of this rabidity, because quite honestly? In terms of shipping, so far 00 has given us a lot of slashy stuff (Acre, anybody? He's practically canonically -- well, okay, I'm not gonna throw "practically canonically" around in a Gundam discussion, but I choose to interpret him as crushing on Exia's pilot, albeit in a sarcastic way and without having met him) and so far, the only het stuff is probable Setsuna/Marina, if I know my Gundam Tropes, and maybe Wong Liu Mei/Hong Long, Billy/Sumeragi, Tieria/Sumeragi -- wait, that's my pet crackship and pooossibly, in light of ep. 9, Lockon/Felt, although that's easily a big brother/little sister dynamic.

And rabidity? Dude, the fandom's still too small XD

Re: repost for various corrections

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
If you insist, then here (http://users.livejournal.com/_faded_fallen/22894.html#cutid1) is one. I've seen a lot more from forums, but as I lurk at so many various forums, I can't remember which specifically.

Also, as for the rabid yaoi fan thing, I wasn't really talking about the shipping potential, just the unreasonable hate for the female characters (which, you do have to admit, can get waaay out of hand).

And rabidity? Dude, the fandom's still too small

I know, that's why I said it's turning out to be the next rabid yaoi fanbase. I do hope I'll be proven wrong though as more episodes are shown. XD

... ah.

Uh.

Yeah.

DDDDD:

Okay, man (woman, whichever... anonymouse? XD). I'm with you, then. I seriously home the fandom takes a turnaround or something. That... that makes me sad. Why are we bashing Setsuna/Marina already? So far, there is absolutely no romance, although yeah, there probably will be. But since 00 has been done so well, so far, why can't we hope and pray that it's going to end up done convincingly and engagingly, rather than just being The Next 1xR? =/ Blech. and yeah, I'm one of those awful hetshippers who started liking the idea of Lockon/Felt. Whoo, someone burn me at the stake for taking a ZOMG TRU SIBLINGLY MOMENT BETWEEN OBVIOUSLY GAY GUY AND RANDOM FEMALE EXTRA and perverting it ::eyeroll::

Thanks for the reality-check, though XD; And I was hoping 00 fandom was still nice and sane and moderate, too.

As someone who really likes Louise, I am saddened.

Re: repost for various corrections

She won me over by that Homer-esque Pringles-eating scene; duuuude, she's a dork, how anyone can hate her (granted I never understood fictional character hate in the first place) is beyond me.

Re: repost for various corrections

[identity profile] moebot.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That is exactly when I started liking her. I have mad love for anyone who can pull off a Homer.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
for 00, what is the ratio of male to female characters?

and like the commentor above, I've not seen any of this fanbrats-infested shit.

Rabid yaoi fanbrats != yaoi fans.

except not a lot of people seem to want to make that distinction. such as, our OP, for example.

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think most of the hate for Relena had to do with the fact that, for some odd reason, everyone seemed to think she was some 'whiny bitch who didn't know how to shut up'. Funny that because she was a pacifist and well, pacifists don't really stand down when it comes to war and peace and shit.

Frankly, some people in the GW fandom were just... bad. :/ :(

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think with Relena, it's just the case that most people missed the tremendous character development she went through over the course of the series. Like, early series? She was pretty snippy, spoiled, and Heero-obsessed. After her dad died, though, she showed some amazing willpower, and the initiative to at least try to do something, as well as nerve, vision, determination and courage and all that good stuff.

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
But wasn't that because after her father was assassinated, she was pretty much the only hope left for Earth and the Colonies? (I can't believe I am having a Gundam Wing discussion, Christ that show hasn't been around for years but damn was it good)

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he pretty much told her that "hey, by the way, you're secretly the daughter of King Peacecraft, and you have to follow in his footsteps and convince the world of his philosophy of Total Pacifism" and yeah. She stepped up to the plate and grew, and that's what I think makes her amazing.

And yeah, Wing was awesome. Frequently TL;DR and a bit badly paced, but still awesome. IT'S A GUNDAM

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Now. Imagine had her father not told her the truth. I wonder why kind of a turn the series might've taken then.

Hear, hear.

[identity profile] cftf.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
There's a 00 comm?

WHY DID I NOT KNOW.

[identity profile] norrowa.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
There's two, actually XD;; [livejournal.com profile] gundam00, which is more active/popular, and then [livejournal.com profile] gundam_00. And also [livejournal.com profile] gundam00fanfic, and [livejournal.com profile] 00icons.

Hope that's helpful :3

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Another thanks I guess for someone who took the time to see what I wanted to say and not what they wanted to read.

Yeah I probably wrote it all wrong, and most likely could of got more sense and less whine driven replies out of people if I'd of been polite about it... but I think I wrote it the way I did to express how I felt back then. I'm not sure why I'm not allowed to bring up such a secret because the fandom is old... a lot of people have replied with "why are you brining up this dead fandom and whining about yaoi, its nothing like that now!!!D: D:!" when I don't see anyone ragging on the 80s-90s cartoon "I'd hit that!" secrets.

Really, I am quite surprised at how people don't seem to realize what comm they are on. It's about secrets, new and old... this secret was meant to show how angry I was back in the GW fandom at yaoi fans who insisted on being asshat bitches about my favourite characters and pairing. Nothing more and nothing less. People just seem to grab onto the word yaoi and see it's being referred to in a derrogatory manner and then read nothing else and get tapping away at their keyboards. Hence why I didn't even bother to reply to half of them.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! So we were supposed to divine what you meant as opposed to what you wrote.

Hope you're not a fanfic writer if that's the clearest you can be.

It's about secrets, new and old... this secret was meant to show how angry I was back in the GW fandom at yaoi fans who insisted on being asshat bitches about my favourite characters and pairing.

except that you write it in present tense.

you weren't very clear there, dear, in that entire secret. obviously you still have some issues regarding Gundam Wing. might I suggest therapy if a 7 year old grudge against a segment of fandom is still plaguing you to this day?

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Done with your superiority trip now? :)

I've said countless times now, I don't give a monkey about the GW fandom or in fact any fandom anymore. I don't especially watch too much anime anymore either... RL becons and all that.

But, people here are always coming up with new and inventive secrets about their past and present. I simply touched on something that had bothered me in the past. I thought it was a good way to tell all those idiots who made me feel bad in the past to fuck off. So sorry you still cant understand that, and still remain intent of being offended, but that's your beef. I would suggest you find councelling of your own before flamethrowing a poster on a secrets community...

I mean, seriously, do you people REALLY expect all secrets to be "I'd hit that!!!11" and "This is my OTP! Squee... everyone would hate me if they knew!"

Get over it already.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, let's ignore the legit part of previous anon's argument where you're getting all pissy because f!s can't read your mind :)

(Anonymous) 2007-12-09 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
When you write things like f**k off and i like het, i ship het and unlike most of you it really is about the love, it really does invite people to sit back and calmly try to decipher your deep meaning, instead of say, rolling their eyes and calling shenanigans. Yeah!

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2007-12-09 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, as soon as you realise that the sort of yaoi fan you speak of is the same type of fan that in the HP fandom turns into a Harmonian (not as sane H/Hr shipper that is), in FFVII a preacher of Sephy-chan and Cloud-chans true love or a rabid Cloud/Tifa fan who hates Aeris with a blind rage (or a Cloud/Aeris fan who hates Tifa), they become easy to avoid.

It's not what they ship, it's how they ship it. They are a certain type of people who I've long since learned to stay away from, and I've honestly not run into one since I left the GW fandom (I hadn't learned my lesson yet back then; it was my first fandom). And I read almost exclusively yaoi.
