But I should have put in a "for example" in there. My benchmark for "rich" is the availability of liquid assets or a safety net to deal with emergency expenses or loss of income without falling into a situation where basic needs are threatened (housing, nutrition, necessary health care.) For example, we're looking at a potential move to care for elderly family, but just can't swing it without a pair of jobs in the new area.
