I don't see the big deal about a music star making music in a different genre.

(Personally, I don't care for the new Taylor Swift song as I have not heard her country music and think this so called 'pop' song isn't something to show me how talented a singer is. It's actually annoying with the repeated words.)

Agreed. For some it can work quite well (see: Hootie and the Blowfish's Darius Rucker in his transition to solo country artist). It all depends on how talented and sincere the artist is.
