I'm starting to suspect some of those fanfics are written in-house to build buzz for the show. They just seem to know more than they should if they were based on some old source material or a few trailers. I am sick of virtually all fanfic being shipping though. While acknowledge there was always a lot of that, there was a huge amount of gen adventures too. Now the gen has virtually vanished in favor of the sub-1k word quick shippy fluff. I think it is now too easy to write fanfic. Once upon a time you had to type it out on paper and post it off to the zine, so few people were willing then to wait the three months+ it might take for a zine to publish it. Or you had to build your own website, even with geocities you had to do a bit of work, and sign up to the relevant mailing list and webring. And boy could you get a serious flaming back then too.

Now it is bullying to give anything other than praise.

I'm old.
