Agreed. Martha was great in the beginning, but I do wish they'd diluted the pining by a factor of five.

Agreed. I loved Martha, but the pining and the jealousy just made so much of her season painful to watch for me.

This. It's the way male writers emasculate interesting, strong female characters: Martha was a fascinating replacement for Rose, until they made her crush on the Doctor so obvious and in-your-face and it made her act stupidly. That last made it inevitable viewers would quickly lose their interest in her.

I have loved all the companions of the new Doctor Who, but as soon as one of them started 'falling in love', first Rose, then Martha, Jack Harkness, I lost all interest in them. I also hated the will-she-won't she game with Amy...

That is why Donna, Wilf and Williams Snr. are the very best of the lot: I really wish Wilf or Williams Snr. could have stayed on for more than a couple of episodes, and could have been the official, full-time companion for a couple of seasons. That would have been great!

Or heck, why not bring back the Shalka!Master: that would be a companion who would throw a spanner in the works... :D
