Can't speak to all careers, all the standard disclaimers etc.

But from what I've seen, sleeping your way to promotion is absolutely toxic to any real long term success.

You plant that idea in peoples heads, and you've sold out your integrity permanently, and it will colour every future interaction people have with you.

Hell, because 'misogyny this is a serious problem for attractive women who've succeeded on their own merits, let alone if you actually do it.

Yeah, this. As a woman, my assumption upon hearing that someone slept their way to promotion is that they can't actually do the job and that they have no issues with getting their current boyfriend to fire me if I try to raise a fuss about it.

I mean, you're right about efficacy in the long-term. I just don't find it nearly as upsetting as everyone else does. I also see this less as sleeping your way into a position you're not qualified for. I assume game development is kind of like publishing insofar as there are a lot more games/manuscripts out there than there are publishers, and getting picked has only a weak correlation with qualifications/quality. In that circumstance, I don't think sleeping with someone in publishing is as bad. Basically, I don't care too much about it, and when a system ceases to be meritocratic or when there's so much competition that it all comes down to intangibles and luck, I think this is okay.
