"Hate"

Maybe I I definitely spend too much time on tumblr, where it basically means "anything negative about my favorite thing at all". What used to be called (more or less constructive) criticism/an opinion different from your own is now met with "Omg, tag your hate. Seriously this fandom/site is so toxic!!1!"

Yeah, this and it's fucking annoying. It really stops you from posting, especially if your opinion isn't all sunshine and flowers.

Yep. I hardly post any sort of personal opinion on Tumblr anymore because of this.

I agree about the word "hate". It's definitely overused.

But wouldn't it be "OMG, don't tag your hate" instead? Why tagging something if you know your post is going to be seen by fans of said thing?

But I see your point. People still get berserk with posts like "but I think this pairing has problems because of so and so in canon, writers has to be aware of X and Y stuff". It's a pity when people get upset about those, because that kind of discussion can be thought provoking and part of what makes fandom interesting and engaging.

But I've also seen people posting -and tagging- things like "ugh, I wish people stopped shipping A/B, only brainless idiots ship that", and that kind of posts are toxic.

AYRT

I've definitely seen "tag your hate" and honestly I was as confused as you are because I had been taught the same thing: Don't tag so that fans don't see it. But apparently you're supposed to tag with "anti-whatever" or something so that people can blacklist?
