Um... no. Katara has a rotten temper, she sometimes loses control of it, and she has to apologize afterward because she says pretty hurtful things to people close to her. I am really not sure what show you were watching.

Yeah, no, I don't remember her having to truly apologize once. Even when she goes too far with her anger, she only ever gets angry for the right reasons, so you're supposed to forgive her for anything hurtful that she said. That's why it's a Mary Sue trait. It's a real flaw (saying hurtful things) that's justified and excused (because she was still right to be angry!)

What about (as mentioned) the water bending scroll?

She flips out at Aang and then apologizes. It's clear that he's upset - he gets teary eyed and Katara isn't portrayed as in the right.

Then when she sneaks out at night to practice, she gets caught by Zuko and the pirates so she has to be rescued.

Or there's her anger at Zuko -- the show makes it clear that she's unjustly holding on to it because she mixing it up with her anger at the Fire Nation in general.

Yeah, I remember how her telling her brother that if he didn't want murderous revenge it meant he didn't love his mother enough was presented as being totally for right, justified and excused reasons.

And getting angry at the Avatar for being good at *bending* - certainly didn't apologize for that one. And she was right about it anyway, true?

*sigh*

Heck, even her getting angry at her father. Yeah, it's fine to feel abandoned even when you know why he had to do it. But the way she treated him until she finally broke and blurted her hurt out was pretty awful.
