Ooh, I've not watched all of Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark, but I have to give it props for featuring an interracial couple. It really made me happy. From what little I saw, the first twenty minutes or so, they were absolutely adorable together.

I did like that! And even though many of Syfy's movies tend to feature a lot of unnecessary fanservice and such (for example, there is a completely gratuitous scene out of nowhere where two topless women make out with each other and propose a threesome to a dude...riiiight before getting eaten by the 2-headed Shark) they're often surprisingly willing to give female characters the opportunity to save the day. In 2-headed Shark Attack, Brook Hogan's character was the one to undertake many of the dangerous tasks, was the only character to face the shark head on (heads on?) and live, and was the one who ultimately killed the shark while a somewhat nerdy guy was mostly there as support. In Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark, Rose was the one who actually piloted Mecha Shark and did most of the dangerous work while Jack provided support in another location, though they both had an equal park in eventually defeating Mega Shark.

If I remember correctly the first film Mega vs Giant Octopus also had an interracial couple at the end of the film. And to top it of, the love interest was Asian, which is very rare. I really have to give it props for that and the fact that like in the sequel, the woman played a rather large role in stopping the creatures.

I really liked from what I saw that Jack wasn't a stereotypical black man. And that they geniuinely seemed to click. And worked well as a team. Say way you will about the writing for these films, but they do a few things right and takes chances that even Hollywood rarely does.

I've got to catch this movie and the one with Brooke Hogan sometime! You know what, quite a few of syfy films have rather capable female characters and I'm so glad for that.

I might have to check out the other Mega Shark films then! And yes, Jack and Rose had a surprising amount of chemistry and a good rapport. I also just found out that Rose's actress was Detective Kate from Angel (first season) which is pretty cool.

I hope I'm not overselling 2-headed Shark Attack, haha. It really is a completely goofy film and the shark looks like it's made from dried up play doh. But it definitely has entertainment value!

I've only seen the first one, not the second one. The first was stupid but fun schlock. It was just absolutely ridiculous and I loved it. Oh. I thought I recognized her! Glad to see she's still getting work.

Don't worry. Syfy and Asylum films are my bread and butter so I'm sure I will enjoy it. :)
