This is an area where mileage is going to vary. I didn't enjoy the campiness. In fact when I started watching Who with the Ninth doctor and got to the farting Slitheen, I very nearly quit then and there. And I think RTD's era always had this underlying fatalism or tragic element that I don't see in the Moffat era. It's like someone further down said, that it often seemed like the underlying theme of RTD's era was that the Doctor ruins everyone's lives. I'm not saying that Moffat doesn't get overly carried away with his convoluted plots, and I'll forever resent what he did with River in season six, but I don't get the underlying feeling of angst, pain, and tragedy that I do with RTD. *shrugs* Everyone's experience will vary.
