I had no idea people so vehemently hated Book 2 of Legend of Korra. I understand having problems with it, and I didn't like everything, but I'm surprised people thought it was SO godawful (besides Beginnings 1 & 2 we all seem to like those)

I feel like a lot of the hate was hype backlash. Like, ATLA was so popular and well-recieved and the idea of having another show with similiar talent but this time with an older cast and female-lead got everybody so excited for what they thought was going to be this near perfect thing and it just wasn't. No, it wasn't irredeemably awful, but the mistakes made were really obvious and preventable, especially the romance subplots.

I hear you, I actually liked Book 2 even if it wasn't that great. It didn't seem that much worse than Book 1.

I thought it was ok. Not great, but not overwhelmingly horrible.

Also I was underwhelmed by the Wan story. I can squint past the "lion-turtles bestow bending" semi-retcon, but for as important as Raava and Vaatu are, why weren't they explored in ATLA? And wouldn't sealing Vaatu away for 10k years have thrown light and dark out of balance? Or did I miss something.

Funny, I thought it was way better than chapter one. At least in Book 2 they got back to the spiritual roots of the show. I missed that in Book 1. One of my favorite things about the Avatar world is how they play around with the themes and ideas of Buddhism. How often do you see that in a Western animation?

I thought it was better too! Maybe a tad confusing at first watch, but if I ignore Asami/Mako/Bolin, it's great.

Boy, I didn't like that two-parter as much as everyone else, I guess. It helps that it was in that (cool-looking) different visual style, so I was able to interpret it as a vague, legendary version of events, kinda retconned and reinterpreted many times over, even if the things it describes are basically accurate.

It was mostly the Mako/Korra nonsense that ruined it for me, plus the fact that Korra suddenly seemed like the worst Avatar ever (really quick to take sides, for example.) Oh, and amnesia plots are the worst.

Basically, I felt like season 2 amplified the already weak writing of season 1.
