To be honest, whether they're military or not, I do think it's good that he treats them like human beings. Those in power who treat those under their command like disposable units instead of people will always be worse to me. How someone treats a person they don't HAVE to be nice to and who is below them in a hierarchical system says a lot about them (though not everything).

Mind you, that doesn't make 90% of Bush's decisions less jaw-droppingly stupid and/or immoral. But he's not a cartoon villain.

I'd rather he (and any leader) treated them as soldiers TBH. They ARE disposable.

Seriously. If soldiers are disposable then so is everyone else and there's nothing to complain about in terms of Bush's policy.
