I clicked on you because I was interested in reading GotG fanfic, and yours popped up, and you had an interesting premise!

That being said, when you got to the part where Rocket started lecturing Starlord about Groot's pronouns because Groot uses ze/zim pronouns, that's when you lost me.

I think I saw that one. It read less like fic and more like straight up PSA.

"Groot's people only have a single gender," Gamora explained. "Zir is what you might call intersex, or bigendered. When you call zir 'he' or 'him' you're lessening zir. You're taking away from zir identity."

Gee, I wonder where you got that idea.

The thing that got me on that one was that they're confused by Peter's species only having two genders, and yet it's entirely normal that Groot's only has one.

Because apparently genders only come in odd numbers. Apparently.

...I feel kind of bad for being so amused by this. So, so amused.

I couldn't even bring myself to be amused, just mildly annoyed that a fic I liked did such a turn.

Well I'm only amused because I didn't read the fic, but I imagine if I had I would feel the same as you. Nothing worse then when a good fic suddenly turns OOC. :/

No wait, it's actually sort of hilarious. "I'm sorry, did I just get schooled on Trans 101 by a talking raccoon? Also, what is Trans 101? They didn't teach that to kids in the '80s..."

I did post a quote upthread a little that was from Gamora, but year, Rocket got in on the action to. It was weird.

Since I don't read fanfiction, I always think that these kinds of things with pronouns are always just weird little asides/there for comedic purposes; I know they aren't but the way you describe it just makes me think that I'm not supposed to take it seriously.

I wish I knew if we were supposed to take it seriously or not.

I do legitimately like the first part, Starlord whump works for me. But then it just gets weird imo.

Thanks :3 I have a fondness for both badfic and weirdfic, so it works for me either way.

That makes me think of that commercial in the 90's where a bunch of popular cartoon characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles burst in on some kid about to buy weed and give a speech about not doing drugs.

I was too young to see those, but I think I get the idea, and yes, I agree.

I remember that. It was simulcast across all the broadcast and several cable networks. Now I feel old.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. Did the author miss Groot being called 'he/him' in the movie? Or that even the Collector wasn't sure what he was (thus making Gamora's all-knowing comment ridiculous)? Or that Rocket is the least tactful character ever? All around failure as a fic, I'm thinking.

MTE this is pretty much the only part that's a little off, Rocket being that unabrasive.

Not part of the fandom, but one of my pet peeves in fanfiction (and in general for writing) is when characters act as mouth pieces for the author.

Pretty sure Groot's Pronouns are groot/groot.
