Reconciling conflicting canons
(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes when a show is dubbed there are minor differences to the original version. Or an adaption/spin-off whatever changes some aspect of a work. How do you handle that? Do you pick and choose what you like better, adopt a original version wins stance or try to find some kind of middle ground how both canons could be equally true?

Like I'm more likely to say that the UNIT stories took place in the 1970s, but when the show itself lampshades the discrepancy, either one works.
Re: Reconciling conflicting canons
I have yet to work out why this exception is a thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)If it's something like the first Highlander movie vs. the show vs. the other movies, I see them as taking place in different universes that happen to share the concept of immortals and certain characters.
If it's something that's continuously changing and retconning itself, like superhero comics, I kind of take it all as a sort of smushed-together canon, with some things being softer canon than others.
If it's a fairly limited amount of retconning, I usually just accept it or think of the change as two AUs (depends on the circumstances).
