same here. a lot of my ""friends"" (that basically got dumped) always liked to shit on the art because they knew it's a hot button for me (i can't help but defend it because a lot of the complaints are dumb as fuck) and i used to defend it and then episode 3 came out...

also, i'm a bitter bitch that a lot of the really awesome merchandise is japan only.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You could always use a proxy service to buy some of that merch.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
SA

true, but i don't always have the means for it. :\ plus, i'm always extremely wary when using proxy services or any kind of agents; especially in regards to their commission fees - not to say that they don't deserve a lil something for their hard work but... it adds up, you know?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true and I can understand that. It's why I've never used why myself. I want to, but so many to choose from and the fees can be killer.

Have you tried Amazon Japan? They used to ship overseas from what I've eard.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
right right!

hmm, i haven't considered! but i'll see what i can do, especially since i'm limited to google translate. or we can look on ami-ami.com! sometimes they sell exclusives from there. :D

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
AmiAmi is pretty good. Amazon Japan can be browsed in English. Here you go. http://www.amazon.co.jp/In-English/b?ie=UTF8&node=1094656

Good luck, anon.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
BLESS YOU. thank you so much! ♥

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! Wish I could help out more. Have you tried Mandrake?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
i haven't actually. i really should since i also collect nendoroids and i hear that's a good place to buy from as well...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I've been meaning to use it as well, for doujinshi. They've got an English section and their stuff doesn't seem to cost an arm and leg. Shipping prices aren't to bad either.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
doujinshi... that takes me back... i kinda want to start collecting but eh, i'm not sure if i want collect any from the new fandoms i'm in.

yeah, i actually just found a sakura taisen artbook for 2,000 yen (well, it's used but still)!!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the doujinshi I collect are basically mini artbooks from my favorite artists. They're either filled with original illustrations or not devoted to any specific fandom in most cases.

Mandaraje takes very good care of their used priducts and even note the condition. Theres jyst so many doujinshi that I want on there. Most are cheap, but it adds up.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
ohh, neat. :D if i can ask, which ones do you have?

yeah, i noticed! i'm really glad they do that because it makes deciding a little bit easier... and i understand! what fandom do you primarily collect from?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sure! A couple of them gave were scanned by someone else, so I got links. This one features workby several Korean artists. Some of my favorites who contributed are Nardack, whose Sailor Moon fanart is beyond gorgeous but not featured in this, Anim, and Dmyo aka Shirahane Nao. https://yande.re/pool/show/2152

This one isn't completely scanned but here you go. https://yande.re/pool/show/3513 I really love Cuteg's artwork. Very soft colors and pretty art.

I've got more doujins, but none of them have been scanned. I can give you links to their pixivs or websites if you want samples of their work if you want. Here's Nardack's pixiv btw. http://touch.pixiv.net/member.php?id=341433 hope you enjoy the Sailor Moon art! all of her stuff is gorgeous in general.

I don't really collect for any specific fandom. Just from artists whose art I really enjoy. My main fandom is Gundam Wing and I've been looking for doujins for my ships but they're not super popular ships so finding stuff for them is hard. Plus, it is an old fandom which makes things harder.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
oh wow that art is gorgeous @_@ i think i've seen nardack all on tumblr (credited of course). her art is just so... beautiful... ;-;

ohh i see. ^^ i was gonna link you to jpqueen but it looks like they're down. that's where i found some digimon doujinshi (mostly tai/matt) and i remember they had a huge collection of gundam wing doujinshi too.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
It really is. There's some really great artists out there and I just want to collect all of their stuff. If only I were rich, lol. Her art is just fantastic. I really wish I could get a hold if her doujins but thy are hard to come by. One of them has been scanned though so at least there's that.

That's a bit of a shame to hear. My search continues. What doujinshi do you have and what series do you collect for?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
that is true. thank you, internet!

actually, if you have a livejournal account, you can go here: http://garagesalejapan.livejournal.com/ sometimes you find some really rare stuff for good prices. i actually got some rare jpop cds from there and you can request stuff there too if you really wanted to find a particular one. :3

as for me, i used to mostly collect digimon and yuugioh (tai/matt from digimon and jounouchi/kaiba from ygo lol). i want to get some stuff from dangan ronpa but ehh, i don't know if i really want to. i haven't finished the second game yet.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for the link. I will definitely check into it. :)

Man, I was really into both of those series but I never thought of collecting doujins for them. What do youvship in Dangan Ronpa?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-26 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
no problem!! ♥

haha, well, i was in the fandom at the right time for that i suppose! and from the first game, fukawa/togami (:x), mondo/ishimaru, kyoko/naegi, and asahina/sakura ♥ what about you?

Recommended shopping deputies

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
As a collector I've used English-speaking shopping deputies situated in Japan for both fandom and non-fandom things since like 2003 or 2004, for hundreds of parcels. Clothes, accessories, toys, collectibles, cheap handmade jewelry, school supplies, etc. ^^

From experience I recommend shoppingmalljapan.com and fromjapan.co.jp, they have thousands of customers, same with rinkya.com (my first deputy) and noppin.com. If you want to do your own research and decide for yourself, just Google "Japan auction shopping deputy" and you'll see more hits that you can count. ^^

Through deputies you can bid on Yahoo!Japan auctions and order from Japanese online shops. :) There's lots of good deals and sales and used items that are basically as new but cost like 30-50% of the original price, and it isn't difficult to find items that cost less with deputy fees and shipping on top, compared to eBay's inflated prices and greedy sellers!

It cracks me up when something for $50 + $25 EMS shipping worldwide on eBay is listed at 1000 JPY on Y!J. I see it all the time and feel sorry for those who only use eBay. The same sellers get their stuff on Y!J for dirt cheap and re-sell it to inexperienced/desperate buyers on eBay. It sucks. They even have the nerve to call items "SUPER RARE!" when there's a handful of them getting relisted on Y!J week after week with no bids.

DA

Thanks for the info! SMJ is one of the ones I've looked into. Have you had any problems with them?

Re: Recommended shopping deputies

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! I haven't had any problems with SMJ and they've been my main deputy for about 10 years now. ^^ They offer different kinds of shipping, the online translator they have for auctions is very helpful, they give you two weeks to pay for an invoice unlike most other deputies and even grant you extra days if you email them about it, etc. Don't think I'd have gotten as many wishlist items over the years if it was required to send payment right away. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually pretty nifty to know. That two week period to pay the invoice will come in very handy for me. Thank you again!

I used From Japan recently and had no issues with them! My only addition would be that the new merch releases tend to be iffy with how well it goes for deputy orders because Premium Bandai sometimes places a 5-item limit per individual, and most deputy sites will count as "individuals." I've had to ask friends to place orders for those cases.

It's almost always for the make-up, too.
