The costumes are amazing. Aaaa-mazing. And she's sexy as hell, headstrong, clever, pretty open about her sexuality and sex-appeal too.

The actual mysteries are okay, it depends on the episode, but they're usually pretty entertaining.

I didn't need convincing, but after that description I'm looking forward to it even more! Clever I would expect, but open about her sexuality is a bit of a nice surprise!

Haha, yes, she is pretty liberated. It takes place in Australia in the 20s, and she used to live in Europe - but she's Aussie. She sleeps around, uses contraceptives, and her best friend is a lesbian doctor.

The two main canon ships:
Phryne/Jack : sexually liberated detective oozes her sex-appeal to gruff married actual detective, UST ensues.

Dot/Collins: devout Catholic with a surprising temper inadvertently charms the pants off of a bumbling Protestant cop, cuteness ensues.

Did you say lesbian?! This just keeps getting better and better. I like that both the canon pairings sound farrr from formulaic! Dot/Collins in particular sounds adorable; think I'm going to like that one.

Yeshhh, lesbian! There's a whole reveal episode "I didn't tell my BFF I was a lesbian and it was important to the plot because love stories happen to everyone".

Dot/Collins *is* pretty adorable. Dot is a shy girl at first, afraid of the phone (because it might be dangerous! Technology!) but she blooms under Phryne's guidance. She's still shy and discrete, but if she has to blackmail her priest by threatening him to remove her pies from the fundraising fair so that he can allow her to date a Protestant, she will.

Here's a trailer! For series 1, so no spoilers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e59WJVUv1bo

Haha, afraid of the phone. Technology IS scary though. Awesome but scary. I've never heard of such a cute blackmailing, but that lady is my kind of woman.

I can see what you mean about the costumes as they are fabulous. The show looks very pretty and beautifully shot in general, and the main character is even better looking in motion. She seems like a firecracker! I'll try to watch a few episodes soon, see if it's my thing. Thanks for the rec!
