Eh, I personally am on your side (I ship characters with chemistry whether I'm attracted to them or not) but I know a lot slash fans too who won't ship unless the idea of the characters fucking turns them on.

This is why the overwhelming majority of slash in my main fandom is between two hot young guys who share a couple of sentences, and not the relationship between a hot young guy and an older grizzled one around whom the entire several game spanning series' plot revolves.
