They have character personas for when they are filming. What you see in vids does not equal how they are in real life.

I'm confused. Are you trying to say that the Rooster Teeth guys, especially the Achievement Hunter team, aren't a bunch of dickheads?

Because they are actually kind of huge assholes to their female fanbase. Some of the shit they say at panels and during podcasts is pretty sketchy.

Huge assholes? Nah. Sometimes say asshole stuff? Yeah. But some of that asshole stuff is them making fun of their fanbase. Which they have done since the beginning of time.

But saying asshole stuff every now and again does not make you huge assholes. And considering how lenient they are towards their Tumblr* (which is mostly female) fanbase, they seem to be doing fine by me. This isn't even taking into account all the awesome stuff they have done (charitable work and such).

*The fanbase which makes creepy RPF about the guys (mostly the AH ones). And (like many other celebs with obsessive fans) whose GFs get attacked for daring to be with Gavin/Michael. Or who sometimes ignore requests from certain people to NOT be in RPF [Geoff's daughter]. Who have to deal with shipping questions. Who show shock/outrage when any of the people use language they have been using since the beginning of Roosterteeth.

But to the main point of the OP, I highly doubt that they are like they are in their videos 24/7. I mean, they have all had normal jobs before joining RT (at least the main faces of the company that we know a lot of).

(Anonymous) 2014-08-26 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Just because they have had jobs doesn't mean they're not assholes? I work in a large healthcare system, and I've worked with plenty of assholes.

Plus, being charitable doesn't mean they aren't dicks either.

Saying asshole stuff now and again makes it pretty likely that yeah, they're assholes.

Hm. If saying asshole stuff now and again makes you an asshole, then like 99.9% of the human population are assholes. Which is why I consider someone being an asshole to be different.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, really, some of the guys are pretty giant dicks. I know a lot of people have issues with Ray but I never paid any attention to it so I don't have the details on that, but Gavin and Geoff are by far the worst offenders. Did you miss the whole "spot the hot" or whatever the fuck they called it? They were literally stalking women and acting like it was a hilarious joke. Even Michael of all people called them out on it during the initial podcast.

And Michael, too, has been pulling some bullshit over twitter especially recently. I know a lot of people who used to be giant Michael fans and they've steadily teetered off because of it.

Even bigots will donate to charity, and while yes, they do some pretty killer stuff, it doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day they aren't exactly stand up people when it comes to women. People have asked them to tone down some of the shit they say in their videos, such as rape jokes, which is completely reasonable IMO, and they often make jabs about it in their videos, which tells me they aren't taking the issue seriously.

If the creators of Cards Against Humanity can recognize some of their jokes are in poor taste and remove them, but the people at RT are unwilling to make very simple changes in their language usage, it's definitely something to side-eye. They don't have to be raging neckbeard misogynists to say and do pretty shitty stuff online and off.

Of course they don't take it seriously. I wouldn't. I mean, it isn't as if they are forcing anyone to watch their videos. Just...turn the video off. I don't like Rage Quit/Let's Builds/etc, so I don't watch them. You are responsible for what media you watch, not the people creating the media.

And the whole Cards Against Humanity debacle made me roll my eyes so hard I saw my brain. People got mad because they were offended by cards in the game. That is like watching South Park and being offended because they made fun of _____________.

edit: If you want to continue to talk about this, be aware I prob won't be able to respond (I am not ignoring you). Family trouble going on, so i have to go deal with a sibling crisis.

If the creators of Cards Against Humanity can recognize some of their jokes are in poor taste

...what.

Of course they're in poor taste. It's Cards Against Humanity. Complaining to the creators that a game that's intentionally in poor taste is in poor taste is like going to a coffee shop and complaining that they sell coffee.

Okay as someone who has been in AH fandom for awhile and attended RTX 2014, I honest to god do not fucking blame them for being occasional dicks to their fanbase.

Tumblr in particular is downright fucking AWFUL to Ray and verbally harass him constantly for an occasional off color joke but Gavin and Michael get off scott free. Gavin, unlike Geoff, never even apologized for Connect the Hots, it's rather common knowledge that one of the censored signs he put up was Lady Rape Tent, and all that british slang he says? yeah, it's not very PC. Yet he gets away with it all and can make jokes about Ryan fingering babies and majority of his fandom (even the SJW part of fandom) will continue to kiss his ass and talk about how great they are but take a giant shit on Ray if he so much as does something like kill a female NPC. So yeah, no wonder Ray hates most of them, and Gavin even says he hates tumblr which is hilarious given they basically worship him.

At one point, the hate for Ray got so bad that they started campaigning for Ray to be fired and started harassing TINA who has no affiliation with AH/RT outside of being friends with Ray IRL.

They also jumped on Jack for not totally understanding what cishet means. And they almost chased Lindsay off her own tumblr because she had the gall to post untagged pictures of food on her tumblr and people immediatly started crying for TRIGGER WARNINGS.

And for the record, they aren't just mean to their tumblr fanbase. I went to one of their panels and they made fun of their male fans too because most of them were just meme spouting LOL GIVE ME SHOUT OUTS levels of awkward where AH would not so subtly insult them for doing stuff like that.

Their assholes to THOSE parts of their fanbase.

The other ones? Their really fucking sweet to. Ryan is an all around sweetheart and stayed an hour after the con was done as did Jack, Ray would compliment people's cosplay and if they asked for hugs he would give them and stayed after a few panels to sign stuff for people who missed his autograph signing. Geoff and Griffin were awesome, and Michael decided to do an impromptu AH panel while they were trying to set up Prop Hunt. The only one I didn't see much was Gavin but that's because he was the busiest but even then he was still pretty nice.

Also, they haven't made any rape jokes in a long time, after the whole quest for horses debacle got blown out of proportion. The most off color they get nowdays is the occasional retard ("mong" for Gavin which is always said) and they say bitch a lot.

and the cards against humanity is right in the name. Cards against humanity. that game has jokes about abortion, religion, auschwitz and so on. the f-word card was unfortunate but that was a write in from someone NOT in the company or affiliated outside of being one of Kerry's friend. they edited it out on the upload on their website and have since made sure to check the cards for offensive write ins before each game. And they give warnings before playing. So yeah, they learned their lesson.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-26 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Same for the podcast? Because they're usually even bigger assholes on the podcast. I have a hard time believing that they're just pretending to be assholes all the time.

WHAT EVEN IS ROOSTER TEETH
I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ANIME OR SOMETHING
maverickz3r0: text icon: if we survive the next five minutes i'll be fucking amazed (rvb quote) (Red vs Blue)

[personal profile] maverickz3r0 2014-08-26 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's a production company based out of Austin, Texas.

Their first big thing was Red vs Blue, which they still do, but now they have a bunch of gaming videos, Let's Plays, Minecraft things, podcats, etc. Plus their new series RWBY which is the anime-ish one you've probably heard of. They've gotten pretty popular for some of their stuff but I don't have all the details on it since Red vs Blue and RWBY are the only ones I pay attention to, and from the brief glimpses into their fanbase, I feel safer that way.
