I just got married. I have discovered since marriage that my husband--sweet as he is 90% of the time--is definitely NOT a perfect person by any stretch of the imagination.

But that's okay because frankly I'm not perfect either. nobody should have to put up with abuse, but if what you're looking for is PERFECTION you're never going to find that in human beings (or, in my opinion, well-written fictional characters for that matter!). And I especially wouldn't hold people to standards I couldn't possibly hope to live up to myself.

Hear, hear. And if more people realized this is in early stages of marriage, I think the divorce rate would plummet.

Oh definitely. There's no such thing as perfection.

What people need to understand is that what makes someone the "perfect partner" is not perfection itself. It is the ability to mesh with you in a way that lets you look past each other's downfalls. My partner is perfect for me because even though we fight sometimes, being together is still worth every moment of it.

Exactly this. The "perfect" partner isn't someone that is without flaw or whatever. It's the person that meshes well with you. It's the person that will be there for the down bits--long or short term--and see you at your worst but still be there for you. And you feel that way about them too. That's the "perfect" partner. Someone you can see the ugly bits of and love/want to be with them not in spite of those things, but because those things are a part of them.

My mother used to say "everybody's crazy, you just have to find the crazy that compliments your own crazy well."

Edit: Of course, if you don't want to bother with that, that's cool too but it's good advice for someone actually seeking a partner.
