Re: what remakes do you prefer to the originals?

I never got the impression that Starfleet was always right though. There were plenty of times in the series where the higher-ups were dicks or just flat out wrong about something. Like in the Ultimate Computer when they try to completely automate the Enterprise and a ship ends up destroyed because of it. To say nothing of the films.

I think that sense of optimism is integral to Trek, though.

I'll certainly take TOS's optimism over Bob Orci's nutter conspiracy theory nonsense any day of the week.

Oh, I don't mean to sound judgmental or anything! It's definitely a "to each their own" thing; I feel like Trek vastly improved once it let go of the relentless optimism, but I can easily see why someone else would prefer it. And it's absolutely Roddenberry's original vision.

I'll give you the TOS films, though-- I quite liked those!
