Tumblr - worth it or not?
(Anonymous) 2014-08-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)Thoughts? Advice? What's the best way to use Tumblr for the non-photo crowd? Are there Tumblrs were no one posts anything? Is there any etiquette to reblogging or anything? If people start following me, what are they expecting? I know almost nothing about it, except that I watch a few Tumblrs with pretty pics.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-27 01:25 am (UTC)(link)I don't intend to write in it. I just feel like fandom is on Tumblr now. Like that's where the meta and discussions are going on. That's where people talk about the new episodes or the spoilers or whatever. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe that's what I want to know. I've seen a lot of people complain about how unfortunate Tumblr is for these things but if that's where they're happening, wouldn't it be easier for me to find them if I had a Tumblr? I don't know...
Re: Tumblr - worth it or not?
It's not hard to set up, and you do not NEED to post content yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-27 01:46 am (UTC)(link)I like art but the reblogging thing seems a little weird to me. Like, there's a list at the bottom, right? So, it follows you around? You can't anonymously reblog? The only thing you could do is remake the post, which could border on stealing? But is the mindset that everything should be reblogged so it's no big deal? Is there notification of being reblogged?
I'm just trying to figure the system out before I incur the wrath of some SJW or something.
Re: Tumblr - worth it or not?
But you can really just create a new e-mailadress and have a generic tumblr account. You can follow blogs and like things without re-blogging stuff.
And yeah, if you created a post you can see who reblogged it. Re-posting art if the author already posted herself is indeed frowned upon, but it's not "stealing", it's more seen as stealing likes.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-27 02:14 am (UTC)(link)To sign in to Tumblr, give them an email address, and you can have an account with a "dashboard" of other tumblr users. Following them that way is actually pretty different from reading their blog from the outside, because the dashboard strips away the specific html design and some of the coding. This can be good or bad.
Re: Tumblr - worth it or not?
And then i followed some of those Tumblrs 'cause they always seemed to post neat stuff, and i reblogged more things, and follwoed more and...i have followers now. It's really odd, but fun. I don't make anything, or put up any fiction, or anything personal, i just reblog and yet - I have 84 followers, how weird is that?? And i only actually know about ten of them from LJ/DW.
So - go forth! Make a Tumblr! Make it pretty, choose a fun name, have fun! Reblog all the pretty and enjoy!
This is me, btw, in case you are curious (and because, well, PRETTY) :)
