The trick is to develop one or more vital skills for a post-apocalyptic scenario. I may not be the best at fending off roving zombies or biker gangs, but they'll keep me alive back at camp if they want their post-apocalyptic civilization to have bread.

If you don't know, learn how to make and use a wood-fired kiln. And how to determine and filter suitable clay. Do that, you're gold. Functional pottery? That would be a huge deal.
