That would be contingent upon MARVEL actually putting out a stinker or two. As it stands now, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

No, that is the genius of the shit-in-the-pool stratagem. You make one major shit in it, and then if someone sees a candy bar in there, they'll panic about the second shit.

In this metaphor all it would take is an under-performing movie to achieve the candy bar in the pool. Marvel has had some of those. Not flops, not even failures, just a movie that does slightly less well than expected. And no matter how good Marvel is, with the amount of churn in its talent pool, and the number of properties being adapted, it will get a clunker at some point. That is just how the business goes. As it stands right now, most people would just shrug and call it a rare misstep, but get the public all fired up with a message that superhero movies' time has passed with a real big stinker from DC to join the turds from Sony (Chronicle 2: The Fantastic Four, already shaping up to be the biggest turd in the superhero genre since the last one Batman and Robin) and you'd have a self sustaining meme.

Plus Marvel is courting disaster with the changes behind Ant-Man, and the rushing it to scree to meet its booked slot. That is risky. Then there will be the inevitable Black-Widow movie, which will never be able to live up to fan-expectations no matter how good it is, but will likely just be a Lara Croft rip-off with lots of boob and butt shots (because that is what female superhero movies are all about, amirite /bitter sarcasm). Those definitely have real potential to under-perform.
