How often do you shampoo/condition your hair?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to know how often everyone here washes their hair? Lately, I've been hearing people say that they only wash their hair once a week, some wash it like every 10 days.

I've also heard of people who don't use shampoo but instead apple cider vinegar? Does anyone do that? If so, how was the process and how do you like your hair?

I used to wash my hair every 2-3 days, but I've pushed it back to 3-4 days now. Any longer and my hair is too greasy, and every day shampooing either dries my hair or makes me scalp over produce oil.

I'm also kinda in between brands right now. I use Garnier's Sleek and Shine Shampoo (mostly for the scent; don't think the shampoo does anything much to my hair) and Organix's Cherry Blossom Ginseng Conditioner. The conditioner really leaves my hair soft and smelling good. But Organix can be pretty costly at times. =(

Sorry, I just came out of the shower.

That really depends on the season.

Heart of summer, with a lot of sweating? Every day.

More temperate season? About every 4 days, sometimes even longer if I slap on some dry shampoo. I rarely condition because I feel it makes my hair heavier and more likely to get greasy.

I used to wash/condition my hair everyday, maybe every other day on rare occasion. But, lately my hair has been super dry, so I started only washing it every other day. Now I'm only washing every three days or four days. I don't even get it wet unless I'm going to wash it.

Every three days or so, as recommended by the woman who cuts my hair.

I used to shampoo and condition everyday, but then I stretched it out to every other day. Now I flip flop between every day and every other day, but I'm trying to stretch it back out again.

Usually every 2-3 days for me, but on rare occasion I've gone four. Anything beyond that and my hair is way too greasy to be seen in public but if I'm sick or something and don't plan on leaving the house I'll go longer.

I wash my hair every other day. I tried that no wash thing but I had no patience for it.

I shampoo just about every damn day, and use a leave in spray conditioner to make the mop harder to comb. Sometimes I'll skip shampoo but only if I'm not doing anything. The alternative is my hair getting really gross.

Having hair that gets greasy SUCKS, but if that's the price of this killer tan I'll take it. Also the conditioner smells like coconut.

Super greasy hair runs in my family so I usually shampoo once a day, and sometimes once every other day. I hardly ever condition it though because I've found that a lot of conditioner will make my hair get oily more quickly and my hair is just as soft and what-not without it

Maybe every week and a half? /black hair

Every 3 days, though sometimes up to 5 days on that rare occasion that my hair stays magically clean. I use random sls/sles-free shampoos and Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle conditioner.

I don't wash with it, but I've used ACV for a rinse. My hair was silky afterward, but got oily much faster than usual.

When I feel I need to. Sometimes that's every day, but if I'm going to be mostly inside for a few days I probably won't wash it (unless it feels incredibly greasy or itchy or something).

I use Organix too, btw! The coconut milk shampoo and conditioner; love the smell. (It makes me hungry though, haha, it's that good.)

Every day, both washing and conditioning. My hair is really curly and if I don't condition it it's a mess of frizz.

Every 2-3 days usually. Sometimes it's every 3-4, like you. And like you, if I do it more often than that my scalp becomes an itchy nightmare and my hair puffs up like a static bush.

I shower more often than that, though, especially if I've been exercising. When my hair is long I'll use a band or a cap. Or just be careful when it's short.

Garnier is terrible, imo. Shwartzkopf(sp???) or Shamptu are both better.

I wash my hair every other day if I'm not feeling under the weather. If I do, then I skip. If I get my hair wet I wash it more often, dayly.

I use condition every time. Folks who are really srs about their hair use hair masks instead. That's why you see some expensive brands with only shampoo and no conditioner.

I think it depends on your hair type and the climate where you live. I wash my hair every 3-4 days and condition it even less.

Every other day, my hair gets greasy pretty quick though so I need to otherwise it's a horrid mess. I did at one point wash my hair every day and conditioned it every other, but that didn't do terribly good things to my hair so I went back to every other day.

I try to push back hair washings, but sadly, I go nuts by the third day.

Every two days, I do a mayo-on-scalp treatment, then rinse it out and wash with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Don't know if it's best for hair, but at least my scalp doesn't burn like it used to. And I think some of my lost hair is actually growing back.

Every day or it gets super greasy. In the summer it fills up with sweat, too, and smells stale.

Three times a week or so usually. I usually have to triple wash it when I do, though. My hair is really thick to the point where every hairdresser I've had has commented on it.

Mostly I use whatever is cheapest, and usually the ones for dyed hair.

I don't condition much. Maybe once every other week. Any more than that actually messes my hair up. And I never use hairspray/gel/mouse. My hair doesn't take product well.

Every day. My hair is really fine, so if I don't wash and condition it every day, it'll get super greasy.

I'm once or twice a week. I find that if I wash it too frequently, my hair becomes frizzy and flyaway, so every 4 or 5 days seems to work. BUT, I should also point out that I do also wash my hair less frequently because it's dyed red, and that color loses its vibrancy very quickly when washed.

I'm guessing my hair isn't as greasy as some others, and my color definitely isn't as permanent. :)

Because I'm lazy, I always use a combination 2-in-1 shampoo conditioner, so I condition every time I shampoo it.

Twice a week right now.

Re: How often do you shampoo/condition your hair?

I wash my hair once a week, usually. More if my hair actually gets dirty/sweaty.

And I don't use vinegar but one of my friends does. I don't know how she feels (I mean she likes it but I don't know in detail) but I know it makes her hair smell really nice.

Also one of my other friends uses another natural not-shampoo (idk what) and she was telling me the other day that when you initially switch to natural shampoo your hair gets really greasy, because your scalp produces extra oil to keep up with the chemicals of shampoo, but then after a few weeks it goes back to normal. IDK I thought that was interesting.
