1. I can see why they might resent you a bit if you're completely ignoring them, but you've got to do what's best for you before worrying about what they think. But if they're mad at you for getting out of the house and off the computer every once in a while, then they're fucking jerks. Good on you for branching out.

2. I love that book. The last time I read it, realizing that Beatty was definitely hitting on Montag was just the cherry on top of the delicious Bradbury sundae.

4. I think we need the story behind this. Did they found out about your shipping tendencies? Did you quit because of the shipping? Was it a coincidence?

8. LOL at this secret combined with #4.

9. I wish there were more people like you in academia. I think it's unfortunate that aspects of pop culture are so ignored and marginalized in an academic setting and considered somehow not worthy of thought or analysis.

24. Same here :(

Really? I can honestly say that I spent most of my time in college analyzing and discussing pop culture. Most of my professors thought it was almost more worth discussion versus "classic" books, etc.

I wish I'd went to your college. The only poetry we heard by someone who wasn't dead was by the instructor.

You could branch out. Academia is not limited to poetry and English classes. There's plenty of pop culture discussion in Anthropology, Film Studies, Comparative Lit, etc.

Really? Which college? Did you major in English too? Precious few of my English profs think pop culture is worth even mentioning. The single one that does has his own class about it.

From a kind of sociological perspective, I think that pop culture may in fact be more worthy of analysis--it's something that shapes our culture and reflects it in a very immediate way, while most of the population doesn't really read the classics anymore unless they're forced to in school.

It's a fairly small Colorado college, but I did in fact major in English. Pop culture really deserves to be studied right along side the "classics." As "Waiting for Godot" reflects the time period it was written in, so do the various medias of today. I suppose I should be glad I had professors who felt the same way. It's a shame others don't seem to have that.

As someone attending a fairly large and pretty good school but NOT majoring in English, I've found pop culture pretty prevalent in my courses myself. Branch out into sociology etc and you'll find yourself surprised (or maybe not, but it's still excellent).
