Maybe they get defensive because a person's sexuality is something deeply personal and it's not, you know, fun or amusing to have it constantly questioned by strangers on the internet?

From personal experience I can say that's 100% true. It's bad enough to have your own family do that to you, but when people who don't even know you do it sucks even more.

And thinking someone is lying about their sexuality because they like fictional men having fictional sex is kind of... um what. Isn't fandom big on the whole "fantasy =/= reality" thing regarding porn, anyway?

Yeah, I think that's the big disconnect. One reason I don't really like Yuri is that it's too close to reality for me, but just because I read slash and/or het doesn't mean I'm attracted to the men in either situation or would sleep with one of them in reality. It doesn't work that way, and I wish more people got the fiction part of all this. It would prevent so much wank.

That's awesome because I just ranted about this in my own journal yesterday. 'Tis the season for people to be grumpy about sexuality, I guess (then again, it's always the season)!

See, I am equal opportunity with my porn in that I like yaoi, yuri, and het pretty much the same amount. It doesn't mean I'm equal opportunity with the people I am attracted to in real life. But whatever, someone's always got an opinion about something that has absolutely nothing to do with them, so I usually just sit back and laugh instead of arguing. Saves me the headache.
