I, like you, dispise the fandom right now. But I think for different reasons. Right now I just don't like the third season. It's just blah to me. And the reason I dislike the girls isn't because I don't like girls getting near the guys, I've been fine with the girls in the past (except for Cassie, but that was just because of her acting skills). I just don't like the girls because it seems like a blatant attempt to change the formula of the show. I just kind of liked it how it was. I liked how unique it was, without a token love story. It was one of the few shows that only had 2 main characters most of the time.

Now, with fandom, I'm saddened because people have literally started segregating out anyone who doesn't blindly accept all the changes. If you show doubt or dislike for where things are going you're immediately assumed to be a crazy stalker that can't stand to see other people near Sam/Dean/Jensen/Jared. The vast majority of the time that's not it. We have highly thought out and frequently (lol) intellectual reasons for not liking the new season. Literally being ostracized for our opinions is ridiculous.

Just because we don't like the 3rd season and/or the girls, doesn't mean we're crazy love stalker fans. Just like the fact that you do like the third season and/or the girls, doesn't make you crazy blindly following Kripke fans. We all have our reasons, and you just need to see that.

I guess I'm just hurt by how if you don't like the girls you're immediately accused of being in "love" with Jensen/Jared/Sam/Dean and are just jealous. Just because you don't like something new of a series doesn't mean it's because you love the main character and are jealous. Why can't you guys accept that there are bigger reasons than that? We're not creepy or in love, we just love film. Most of us enjoy the production value and spend more time discussing how the writing is gone up or down, or how a shot was off. Things like that. We acknowledge that the new characters are a turning point in production value, just as the new seasons general cinematography has went to shit.

Why doesn't anyone understand that?

If that's all you think is wrong with the fandom, I think you're slightly obsessed with the fact that you hate this season (for... whatever reason) and haven't peaked outside of your shell recently.

Um, for one, that was just one example that I decided to pic. Secondly, how is "have a shell" and not peaking outside supposed to tell me anything about FANDOM? lol, oxymoron.

You said that one thing was why you despised fandom (as opposed to the multiple issues mentioned in the secret), not that that was one example of why you disliked fandom right now.

Secondly, I said that if you think being ostracisized for disliking the third season (bwuh?) is the only thing wrong you haven't been looking outside your shell at fandom as a whole, thus implying that maybe you should stop obsessing over percieved slights to you and realize that other things are going on in the fandom.

*sigh*. I hate it when you get jumped all over because you don't word for word state everything. I started with the intention of posting more but then just got tired of talking about it. I don't think it's necessary to explain what I was going to after I finished because that would just be idiotic. Why is it necessary to explain word for word that this is one reason, but there are other reasons that I'm not going to talk about right now because I'm tired of talking about it after talking about this? Most people just talk about the part they choose to talk about without bothering to explain the rest. That is wordy and unnecessary. And I'm sorry if you think everything needs to be spelled out explicitly because I think people with even a little bit of word comprehension, can read what they need to out of it.

And secondly, you're right, I've stopped looking at fandom, but that doesn't mean I have a "shell". It just means that I finished with the fandom after people started getting insanely bitchy before the season had barely even started. And yes, people who claim not to like the third season are literally being harassed because of it. Myself and many other people who share the same stance on the issue getting ridiculous anonymous comments all over our journals, if we provide an email, we get horrible emails. It's ridiculous.

And the whole "You have an opinion, so you're obsessive about yourself" is flat out stupid. Just because I chose to talk about an instance that seemed relevant, in my opinion, doesn't mean I'm "obsessive" for not blabbing on and on about other subjects too.

I'm sure that there's nothing I can say that will result in anything less than a reply about how stupid I am for my belief or writing skills or whatever you'll find to pick on because this is EXACTLY what I was talking about in my original post. People jump all over you for no real reason except that it's not a shared opinion. Please, get over it.

You said you despised fandom for a reason other than the original poster. You named one, and did not name any others. So I assumed that was your only one because you never said "this is one of many". and since I've seen plenty of people, who are perfectly well-known and liked in fandom, who acknowledge problems with the season, I think that you're blowing your own problems out of proportion.

That said, I was rolling my eyes at you for "despising" fandom even though you clearly had no idea why the OP was bothered-- there have been some really rather large blow-ups lately that are rather more upsetting than someone thinking you have ulterior motives for disliking this season.

Wait, harassing comments? Seriously? And you don't think that maybe it's a troll trying to irritate you and not, you know, half the fandom? I know of plenty people who dislike one or the other of the girls or something about the season but who are sane about it and don't attract crazy trolls.

Oh, I can accept people who don't like the girls when they have a real argument for it, and most do. The writing is bad, the characterization is off, the acting is questionable ... whatever. There's just far too many people who can't vocalize their dislike without bringing in the 'shipping issues or how they don't think they're hot or ... I mean, give me a real reason -- like you have. I may not agree, but it's all personal preference.

Plus ... I don't know. I hate to sound snotty about the whole thing, but when did the bar get raised so high on this show? My expectations for the show have stayed fairly low -- just stay pretty and keep me entertained, imperfectly or not -- from the very beginning. If the plot is a little cheesy, if the dialogue is still off, if the guest stars are a little stiff, I'm still okay. Then I come online to squee and everybody's busting out the religious and mythological references and cinematography critiques and I'm sitting there all, "FIRE BAD, WINCHESTERS PRETTY," waiting for someone to has my squee. Which frankly has happened far more than I'd like the past few months considering I try never to do that on anyone else's LJ.

I mean, if I want to think deep thoughts about a show, this is not the one I do it for. (I have other shows for that, although mentioning them would probably ruin the whole anonymous thing in a heartbeat. :))

I don't understand taking Supernatural seriously. It's like taking Hercules and the Moon Men seriously. Supernatural is supposed to be low-brow B-Movie popcorn fun, no real thought involved. It's ooooooozing with cheese and bad dialog and horrid plots (EVOL KILLER RACIST TRUCK) all begging to be MST3Ked to bits.

Most of its fans outside of LJ-land are guys, I've met very few girls who watch the show.

I know, right? I love this show and I've been in the fandom a long time, and I can remember when the same people who are overanalyzing it now were just as "FIRE BAD, WINCHESTERS PRETTY" as I still am.

Everyone I know offline who watches it is female, but it used to be that I avoided talking to them about it because they never really had anything any more thoughtful to say than, "That was scary and Sam is hot!" And now I cling to them and their lack of complication like crazy.

Isn't that the truth. It is not the show to write dissertations on. Sometimes when I look at people talking about all the DEEP OH SO complex things in the show. I'm like, what show are you guys watching? It can't be the one where they get ripped to pieces one scene and are perfect the next scene with not a hair out of place. Or the one where demons make threats over cellphones or make really bad jokes and one liners.

My main expectation for the show, and the only thing I kind of expected was my "dark" and "I try to be scary, but most of the time fail" show. And now it's just the same story every episode :/
