...fights and powers, eh? Do you you also like shonen fighting anime?

Not OP

Shonen anime fights last for episodes and over explain everything. They're not the same and are not near as fun as movie hero fights.

I was actually thinking more of something like classic Saint Seiya. whre fights do, yes, sometimes last for eps, but there is little to no explanation.

Nothing wrong with that, OP. Sometimes the plots don't make much sense.

Sometimes the plots don't make much sense.

Yeaaa, that is a thing that tends to happen. Or they make 'sense' but are just poorly done. I enjoy plot, but the character interactions and action sequences are more important to me in superhero films.

You and pretty much 90% of the viewing public.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. And this is why I don't like superhero movies in general.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the same, though for me it's because the plots in superhero movies are usually soggy cushioning around the powers and action.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care about the plots or the powers or the fights. I'm here for the character interactions.

Tony Stark dealing with PTSD

Steve seeing Peggy with dementia

Bucky and Steve reunion

Natasha and Clint cuteness

Coulson's fanboying

Yes please

The plots are just an excuse to get them together and the action is just there for the turn-off-your-brain crowd (no offense -- I like to do that myself as well, but I always play video games when I'm in that mood which are infinitely better for that type of entertainment in my opinion)

I'm really picky about action so this is my main reason for watching too.

This is me too, I love seeing all the characters bounce off each other in good, or bad ways. Give me it all!

Same here. I enjoy the plots and all, but they're really just there to give the characters something to bounce off of and get them interacting.

And to nitpick.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Same. That's why I love movies like Independence Day and Guardians of the Galaxy so much. It's the character interactions that make those movies, not the explosions and fight scenes.

Although, the personal interaction connecting me to the characters does enhance the action scenes, if I don't give a shit about the characters, then my enjoyment of watching shit blowing up does have a limit.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I zone out during the fights and am more into everything else, but I like the powers too (and the shirtlessness and that scene with Hugh Jackman's muscled-out ass.)

Whatever. You go on with your bad self, OP. Enjoy the fights! :)

(Anonymous) 2014-08-31 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love superhero movies for lots of reasons, but that seems a good enough reason to watch to me, OP!
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Winter Soldier back)

[personal profile] nightscale 2014-08-31 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the fight scenes and super-powers in superhero flicks but if I'm completely honest what I'm really after is the character interaction and relationships, I'm all about the messy emotions between characters.

There is no right way to enjoy a movie though, so I see nothing wrong with your way of enjoying them.

(I enjoy the plots too but with superhero films it's always best to not look too closely at them, they tend to unravel if you do that.)

Well, in a lot of cases superhero films are full of plot holes anyway so IMO you're doing it right in concentrating on the elements that are just good fun.

Having said that, I do like the instances of, for example, the MCU films exploring characterisation and personal relationships. I still love the fights and explosions but giving people actual histories with one another isn't a bad thing even in a superhero film.

I just watch for the homoeroticism
