It would have been interesting under a different author who didn't have such a black and white view of her characters.

Yeah, her characters are either good or bad, smart or dumb. There isn't a hell of a lot of gray area.

I mean, I LOVE the books and I do love the characters, but when you have Hermione, who is my fav girl in the series, permanently scar someone for doing what they thought was right cause it went so against what SHE believed in...yeah....that sorta felt like JKR vicariously living through her in getting back at someone, cause Hermione is never called on it and she's praised for it.

I didn't say that, now did I? JKR has quite the view of her characters as certain things and they exemplify those characteristics to the point that they can be very black and white.
