I mean…I kind of get it on one hand.

I always really loved the concept of Pon Farr in Star Trek (couldn't believe it was canon either!) but at the same time…omega verse just seems to be this really weird mishmash of enforced roles, rape, and unhealthy relationships. And while I can enjoy that…as long as people don't try to pass it off as perfectly healthy and romantic, which seemed really, really common.

The joy of this trope was overturning the rules so that it's not creepy anymore and also worlbuilding. Or an exuse for the shift to OOCness. Idk, I like this verse.

There were a lot of different reasons omegaverse appealed, I think, but at least one of the reasons was that the idea of secondary genders made it easy to ship slash pairings without having to deal with homophobia in society. It was really good setup for escapist fantasies.
