I saw it as a kid and didn't particularly care for it, but upon rewatching it about three years ago, I started bawling my eyes out. Which I'm totally not doing right now, btw, there's just a horn in my eye.

It's a short story that Beagle wrote a few years ago, called "Two Hearts" IIRC.
