How was she mean? Sue Perkins has gone on record saying Iain's baked alaska was out of the freezer for 40 seconds, not enough to reduce it to liquid. You've fallen for the misleading editing done to make it look controversial.

I think she showed poor sportsmanship, and the length of time is actually pretty irrelevent. She said that she removed it, asked who it belonged to, and then left it on the side. I can think of three things off the top of my head that would have occured to me before taking out somebody's ice cream and leaving it out on the hottest day of the year under filming lights. The length of time was irrelevent, in my mind. Iain's leaving was understandable given his sportsmanship wasn't exactly stellar either, but I would have preferred moving to a double elimination next week (which would become moot given Diana leaving for health reasons) because the potential interference; the melted ice cream, which was at the bare minimum not helped by Diana's actions, would have ruined the sponge and given him nowhere to stick the meringue. I wouldn't have presented it either.

I swear I only gave it this much thought because I wanted to address my kids' questions if they came up, because my oldest is really struggling with perfectionism at the moment. GBBO is serious business in this house.

Posting again to say that I'm not the anon you replied to. Thought I had said that, but obviously not.

Thanks anon, I am the anon they replied to! I felt it was very mean on second watch it really struck me, to take it out, leave it there, then when he found it her reaction was quite nasty, I think that's why people got so up in arms about it. It was the way she did it, if it had been an accident and she was sorry or even embarrassed, but she clearly wasn't either.

I mean, OK I am also overthinking here, but if it were me I would ask if I could move it over to nearer his table, if I felt strongly I needed it next to mine. Or just put it in a free spot and walk the few feet to get it!
