Doctor Who discussions?

[personal profile] kaleidoscope 2014-09-01 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Where is a good site that discusses the new episodes of Doctor Who? I discovered reddit recently and do like it but the site gets confusing for me since I open everything up in tabs, then trying to follow the line of discussion of who is replying to who. I'm not sure of the LJ community, seemed a little small.

Try SFX magazine's site, not solely Who as it is a general SF magazine but pretty good. They are pretty good both in the review comments and in the forum. Lot of sensible crit, very little anti-Moffat frothing like the main lj community. Unless you are into anti-moffat frothing, then the Doctor Who community on lj is your place.

Not into any anti-person do-hickey. Thanks for this site! It's interesting, I like that the review is more manageable than the AV Club's version (or maybe it's just this particular episode). And the comments are easier to follow than reddit.

It's good to have a variety of sources to go to, thank you!

Can we actually ask about other discussions on this thread too? I miss having places to discuss things, and LJ is... shit for that these days.

Maybe we could have non-secret related fandom discussion in general comments every now and then?

AYRT - Yeah, I'd like that.

As in Doctor Who or just other stuff? Ask whatever you want! I may not have an answer which is why I lurk everywhere to read what other people say.

AYRT - Other stuff in general; your post for DW discussions reminded me of how frustrated I get when I try to join communities and/or discussions for shows I like, and the conversation's either off-topic or just not that deep, OR the fandom pretty much goes into summer hibernation. Which is depressing when I tend to have more thoughts upon rewatching off-season.

I have enjoyed the AV Club's reviews for quite a few shows for the past couple of years.

Funny how I just randomly decided to check the ratings they gave for all the episodes, and I noticed the ones under Matt's/Moffat's era were much better compared to Ten's/RTD's.

Just noting it. I'm not team anyone, but I do think people will automatically miss Moffat once someone else replaces him; just like RTD.

Huh ... same reviewer?

(I don't actually read their DW reviews consistently: I've just liked a lot of their reviews of otehr things.)

For most of the episodes, yeah.

I don't read a lot of reviews altogether, but it's good to see people saying things that don't revolve around the whole "Moffat sucks ass" thing for a change.

*nods* Their reviewers generally have been thoughtful and articulate enough that, even if I don't agree with them when I first come to read the review, by the time I've finished reading I sometimes can see the material from a new perspective.
