I've never watched Buffy, so I have no opinion about Xander. But I agree with you about the kind of flawed characters people really want. They only want characters who are "flawed" in ways that are acceptable to be flawed in, not real flaws.

Except the definition of "acceptable" varies from person to person... just like the types of flawed characters they can stand.

Sometimes it's not even moral, you just find the flaw so annoying that you don't want to watch it or deal with it, even if you don't hate them for it.

There are characters I like more than Xander despite being way more flawed than Xander.
