I do think a lot of really good stuff came out during the hiatus, but by the end of the Virgin NA run they were obviously running out of steam and just recycling a lot of Cornell and Orman's stuff and sinking into grimdark. The BBC 8th Doctor stuff was mostly just flatly written, and the Big Finish stuff was more concerned with how much general weirdness they could pack in than actual adventuring.

I'm about as anxious to go back to that as I am to the Colin Baker or Douglas Adams eras of the show.
