Re: Favorite Character Flaws

Hmmm, I enjoy a variety of flaws because there are so many ways they can be done. I only really dislike flaws that are portrayed badly, ie: "flaws that are not recognized as bad" or "flaws in name only" . If you say something is a flaw , put your money where your mouth is and show it.

A few of the flaws are the most annoying done poorly are stubbornness and hypocrisy. I'm sorry but, stubbornness isn't much of a flaw when your character always (or almost always) turns out to be right anyway. It's a GREAT flaw when you make your character be WRONG. Make him face the fact that he's wrong.

Hypocrisy is annoying when the creators don't acknowledge it (Season 3 Sam in Danny Phantom, and some parts of season 2). If your character spies on someone else's date and its okay because "omg we're worried about you" but later someone else spies on that character's date because their worried and they get consequences.....it just leaves me wondering "well gee, why is it okay for Character A to do but not character B?" I hate when authors have some secret code of "it's okay for MY character because reasons, but it's not okay when you do it." ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOUR CHARACTER IS BEING A HYPOCRITE. It's much easier to forgive when it's acknowledged and called out.
