I didn't have an account before I signed up for Yuletide either. You can just email whoever's in charge and they'll set you right up. (It tells you where to email in the FAQs or wherever. Just say you want to participate in Yuletide.)

Though it is discouraged, you can nominate and then not participate in the actual exchange (at least once, I think). They would rather you didn't but if you nominated your fandom, you could be sure it was available for you then.

Then, when it comes time to actually signing up, you can see ahead of time what all the fandoms available are. You will have to choose more than one fandom to be willing to get as a gift (I think you have to choose four) but you can see ahead of time if there's enough fandoms you're willing to write or get. If you really only have one fandom, then it might not be worth it. But, on the other hand, if you REALLY want that one fic, this is probably one of the better opportunities to get it. It might take more than one year, but a lot of people get their super rare thing eventually.

I would also add, some people (not all) link to the material for their fandom. So, if someone wants a fandom for an old movie, they might link you to the movie on YouTube so then you can watch it and know what to write about. A lot of people learn about fandoms that way for treats, etc.

SA

I also forgot to mention that I've matched on an Austen fic before. Most of her books (or versions of her books/movies) are nominated, so if you like one kind of Emma, you might feel comfortable offering another kind? Or maybe another of her books? It's just a thought.

The only thing not allowed (to my knowledge) is P&P as it's too big, but I think you'll be guaranteed to find a lot of her other stuff if that's your cup of tea. :)
