Inspired by Secret 12
(Anonymous) 2014-09-03 03:17 am (UTC)(link)For me... well, it's a big cliche, but finding out what a massive tool Orson Scott Card is really soured me on his work. I'm not sure how much of that was disappointment, and how much of it was the "Wow, now that you mention it these plot/character points really are kind of creepy and gross" phenomenon.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-03 03:51 am (UTC)(link)When he finally explained, he said the show was too dark for him and he needed some levity/comedy (this from an actor who is now on Homeland). I've heard he pulled a similar stunt when he was on Chicago Hope, though I don't know the particulars.
I just thought the whole thing was very unprofessional. It wasn't that he quit, but rather that he treated his cast-mates and the rest of the production with so little respect. And, recently, he's been talking more about his departure and really slamming the show, wondering how people could watch such a "depraved" show and basically insulting all the fans who really liked him on the show. I find it really distasteful (and also stupid: the show's about the FBI's serial killer catchers; what did he think it was going to be??).
The more I learn about his working career, the less respect I have for him, and I find it difficult to divorce that from the characters he creates.
