I get you, OP. I find it off-putting whenever it's apparent that fic authors haven't done the requisite research (then again, I'm a weirdo and recently spent multiple hours researching underwear for a piece of smut).

While it could be argued that it's "just fic," I think that if you're going to do something, then you ought to do it right.
