I don't think he was the greatest dad ever by any stretch, but I don't get the general malice toward John. Usually what I find myself thinking is "Yeah? Could YOU do any better under the same circumstances? Could you even have kept those boys alive, and little Sam out of the clutches of Lucifer's demons, as long as John did?"

Frankly, I think the guy deserves some credit for raising two sons who were capable of surviving everything they've been through and saving the world to boot.
