Well, a major organization in the setting is literally called 'Nudist Beach,' many of the characters spend much of the show wearing nothing more than utility belts and strategically-placed weapon holsters because it turns out clothes can kill you, there's a guy who constantly strips and shows off his glowing nipples while in sensual poses, and the main characters wear battle costumes that cover about as much as bikinis. So yeah, probably.

(And somehow, despite that, it manages to be a good show where you barely even notice the nudity by the end. It's weird.)

as someone who grew up with nudism, I assure you it's not weird, but just the way it works with nudity. once the novelty of seeing everyone naked is gone, you don't notice it anymore.

I found the depictions of nudism vs. clothes as a means of subjugation very interesting, also because they cleverly subvert themselves, as in the figure of Mikisugi, who is one of the leaders of nudis beach, while at the same time being the exact oposite of what a "true" "pure" nudist would want associated with their lifestyle, i.e. sexualizing his own body, posing, sexually harrassing others... (you totally encounter these types, but ideology-wise they're anathema) and on the other hand you have ryuuko, who proves that humans and clothing can indeed be friends, or satsuki, who shows that covers are also applied by humans to hide OR express their true colors, not just things that are applied to them, to cover their identities.

Yeah, it's a surprisingly deep show sometimes. And I totally agree with what you're saying -- the 'it's weird' part mostly came from the fact that, if you were to think of 'an anime show where people get naked all the time,' you probably wouldn't assume the whole matter was treated seriously with thoughtful insights from the experiences of real nudists/naturists.
