Some writers just don't want to be told by their betas that they've made errors, even when they've asked you to do just that. As a beta I always specifically ask the writer what they want me to look out for and what they'd like me to consider unimportant.

The ones that instead of saying "look out for X, X and X" instead say "tell me all my mistakes" are invariably the writers that don't want to hear about any of their mistakes, and get defensive when you do the hard work to help them fix the fic.

It's got to the point where I'm happy if they've just done a basic spellcheck.
