I hear you, OP. The popularity of this bullcrap makes me feel like we've lost something from fandom. I'm not familiar with the Stargate universe, but several of my fandoms suffer from the same thing: great settings and characters that the fans don't bother to explore and instead shoehorn into unrealistic fluff.

I'm all for romance - heck yes, give me the romance! But you cannot just shove your OTP into the kind of sappy behavior you would not be caught dead doing yourself and *call it romance*. Then it's just fluffy OOC crap.
