Re: Complaning thread!

My job is such a crock of shit and I need therapy to hand-hold me into finding a better one since I'm absolute rubbish at doing it myself. I admit I don't try very hard, but the times I have tried, it's blown up in my face. I'm terrified to do it now. But I'm so miserable, I need a change.

Ehh, I feel you. Job hunting is a drag. Good luck! Friends' help can be used in place of therapy?

Thanks. Even looking through job boards makes me so panicky I have to stop for awhile, and then I'm back to square one.

I don't have any friends left, so. Heh.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've been in a similar position of having a shitty job that I was desperate to get out of. I'd recommend sending a ton of resumes and cover letters every single day in the morning in response to Craigslist ads. Also, a huge tip is how you feel when you're getting interviewed in regards to how you're being treated and what the environment feels like to you. If you get a bad vibe from it, then that's a good indication of why there's a position open for that job.

Thanks. I basically have to start by cold-calling some places where I'd like to work, which seems intimidating to me. I'm trying to get out of my area. It's pretty rural, and doesn't really utilize Craigslist.

A couple of months ago I had an interview at the dumpiest small-town newspaper I'd ever seen -- and I already work at a small-town paper. The editor told me right away it was a dead-end position. The guy who would be training me couldn't communicate, and had a tangible air of hating his job and life. Someone's chair broke just from her sitting in it, right before my eyes. There were so many bad vibes it was comical.

Cold-calling is scary and feels like a huge chore, but really, it's SO much easier than it looks. And it will feel good once you start doing it and you've accomplished something.

I don't like calling strangers but I have learned that I waste a lot less energy if I just do it instead of sitting around psyching myself up or putting it off. XD
