Textbooks are way too expensive. Brand new information, I know.

I hate being so dependent on my parents. I feel guilty even when they buy groceries for me. So the hundreds of dollars of textbooks is driving me crazy.

I applied for a job a couple weeks ago and I've been waiting to hear back. I called today and they said they were just now looking over the applications. And then even if I do get the job, I'll be dependent on my parents for transportation because I'm still working on the driving thing and there's no public transportation within walking distance.

Is it that you hate feeling dependent on them? Because that's a good feeling to have, it motivates you to get the most out of your education so you can have the most choices in life - which is no doubt why your parents are supporting you so much. They're giving you the best chance possible at starting out in life. As a parent, this is what I'd do. And I'd do it happily. Or I will, when they're at that stage.

If supporting you is putting a burden on them, have you thought about getting a part time job, just to alleviate some of that burden? It might also make you feel less guilty, if you contributed in a small way.

Just some thoughts.

I just feel like they weren't supposed to have to support me for this long. They don't complain but I still feel guilty.

I'm working on the job but like I said, options are very limited by transportation issues and I'll still be creating some new hassles for them even if I can contribute with some money.

I agree with anon. It sounds like your parents are trying to set you off on the best future possible and I think that's really cool. And they are doing it happily. The best way you can honor that is to "pay it forward" and not beat yourself up about being dependent on them right now. :)

Thanks. It's okay. I'm slowly getting better. It's just hard, and my depression doesn't help.

Parents always see their kids as their kids no matter how old they are. If they're doing this for you, it's because your happiness is paramount to them. Repay them by studying hard and doing your best. That's all any parent would want. :)

I'm sorry about your depression, I know it's an added burden. I wish I knew what to say to that but I don't. *hugs*
